Are You Tougher than a Boy Scout?
From the producer who brought you Ice Road Truckers and The Most Dangerous Catch comes Are You Tougher Than a Boy Scout?, a new reality show that will air on the National Geographic Channel this spring.  A team of older Scouts will compete against a team of adults in a series of Scouting-related challenges that highlight the skills Scouts learn.  Designed with the support of the Boy Scouts, the show will demonstrate in a positive light how Scouts go whitewater rafting, rappelling, mountain biking, and (watching the adult team, according to the advance publicity) how NOT to pitch a tent.

This should be fun for your Scouts and a great recruiting tool.  Show times have not been set yet, but will be posted here.  This is also a link to the article in this month’s Scouting magazine.

Troop 440 Merit Badge Day 2/18/13
Troop 440 of St. Bernadette Catholic Church is hosting a Merit Badge Day on February 18th (President’s Day).  The location is at 80 E. University Blvd, Silver Spring, MD, just outside the Beltway in Silver Spring. Our goal is to offer 20 merit badge sessions, this message is two-fold:  To recruit MB counselors for the day and also to let you know about it to promote it within your Troop.

Need for Merit Badge Counselors
·        Currently, counselors for the following badges are committed to the day:  Law, Fire Safety (am and pm), Public Health, Electricity, Genealogy, Energy, and American Heritage.
·        We are seeking counselors for Communications, Citizenship in the World and Traffic Safety.
·        And we have room for nine other badges.

Please distribute to your list of MB counselors.  They can contact me directly with questions at 301 466-7427 or maryellenbarringer@gmail.com.

Troop Registration
We are asking each Troop that participates to provide one Merit Badge Counselor for a ½ class and one adult volunteer for the entire day (7:30 – 3).  This can be split into two shifts, but we need at least one adult from each Troop on site for the entire day, in addition to any counselors that are participating.

If your Troop is planning on participating, please send the name of an adult who is willing to be the Troop coordinator to Mary Ellen Barringer at maryellenbarringer@gmail.com ASAP,   If your Troop will not be participating, also please let Mary Ellen know.

The fee for the day will be $10 per Scout, paid in one check by the Troop.  Scouts are welcome to bring their own lunch or may purchase a lunch.

Troops outside the District will be allowed to register beginning January 17th.  Early registration is recommended.  Thanks much for your assistance.

Mary Ellen
